A silo is a facility used for storing and protecting grains, oilseeds, legumes, and other items. Generally, the cylinder of a steel silo is made of galvanized sheets and comes with auxiliary facilities such as conveying equipment, cleaning equipment, and temperature measuring equipment. It features large storage capacity, convenient operation, long preservation period, and meticulous management.
The main way to put grain into the silo is to load it through mechanized equipment. A discharge hopper is installed at the bottom of the silo, and the upper corridor is equipped with transportation equipment for loading. During loading, the bulk material in the discharge pit is transported to the upper corridor by a hoist and unloaded into a horizontal belt conveyor. The belt conveyor unloads the bulk material to the silo grain inlet and flows into the silo. This mechanized operation method facilitates automated operation and improves the efficiency and safety of grain storage.
But a vertical elevator delivers the material to the top of the grain silo and place it inside, other transportation systems can be used, such as bucket elevators or blower systems, but a vertical elevator is typically the best choice, though it ultimately depends on the purpose. For example, blower systems can cause grains to crack, making them unsuitable for grain you’re planning to sell on the market.
